    Happy New Year, piggy pals!

Have you kept your New Year’s resolutions? I sure have!

A brand-new year means fresh starts, fresh snacks, and lots of hopeful wheeks echoing through the house. While Big Momma makes her own New Year’s resolutions (something about “drinking more water” and “being more organized”), I decided to make some resolutions of my own… guinea pig style!

I’ve officially appointed myself the spokespig for piggies everywhere, because these resolutions aren’t just good for me, they’re good for all my guinea pig friends. (And their very own Big Mommas, too!)

Resolution #1: Never Skimp on the Hay

Big Momma says this one every year, and she’s right. Fresh hay is the most important resolution every guinea pig pet parent should keep, and Big Momma takes that job very seriously!

She knows her stuff. After all, for piggies like me, hay isn’t just a snack. High-quality timothy hay for guinea pigs keeps our tummies happy, our teeth trimmed, and our minds busy.

While I already love fresh hay, I know cavoes sometimes don’t eat their hay like they should. For those picky piggies, might I suggest starting off 3rd cutting timothy hay? It’s extra soft, extra fragrant, and extra nummy, making it one of the best hay options for guinea pigs who need a little help getting into their hay-eating groove.

Big Momma Bonus Tip: It also makes a nice topper for the crunchier 1st and 2nd cut hay that I usually munch on.

    Resolution #2: More Enrichment

Mental health matters too! This year, Big Momma and I are resolving to:

    • Explore new hideouts
    • Rearrange my playpen more often
    • Turn snack time into forage time
    • Play with new chew  and foraging toys
    • Keep my brain as busy as my belly

Enrichment keeps us confident, curious, and content. Plus, it just makes life more fun!

Resolution #3: Eat a Balanced Diet

Just like with hoomans, a balanced diet makes a big difference. Because a happy guinea pig is a healthy guinea pig!

Along with unlimited hay, I’m resolving to enjoy a thoughtful mix of fresh veggies, measured pellets, and enrichment foods that encourage natural chewing and exploring.

Big Momma handles the shopping and prep. I handle the enthusiastic taste-testing!

And as a reminder, I always need fresh water to drink. (Big Momma checks that too.)

Resolution #4: Small Changes, Big Results

Some of the healthiest changes are the smallest ones:

    • Refreshing hay more often
    • Offering a little more floor time
    • Rotating toys and tunnels
    • Adding new textures and foraging opportunities

These are the little things Big Momma does every day that help my resolutions stick, and they add up to a happier, healthier guinea pig.

Here’s to a  new year full of fresh hay, zoomies, cozy naps, and lots of joyful squeaking.
