Chapter 106 – The New Resident Novelist
Merlot was nervous as she sat in front of the computer screen. On the main screen was her new boss, Belinda. On the second screen, she put up a picture of Enzo and her for comfort.
Merlot said, “Enzo said I have to take over as Resident Novelist for Small Pet Select and write the blog. I don’t know anything about writing a blog.”
Belinda reassured her, “Just write what happens at the House of Buns. It helps humans understand us rabbits better.” She looked at Merlot in silence for a long moment. Then she added, “Write from the heart. If you know what I mean.”
Belinda was more concerned for her new friend who had just lost her boyfriend. That had happened to her before, so she understood what it was like. “Enough ‘work talk,’” Belinda said, “How are you doing?”
Merlot replied, “Well, I miss hanging out and snuggling with Enzo. He was the best boyfriend. He was my rock! But Enzo asked me to promise to look after Dad, so I’ve been busy doing that. You know, just hanging out with him. Doing binkies and zoomies because it makes him laugh.”
“Well, that’s good. That will keep you busy,” said Belinda.
Merlot was feeling more comfortable about her new boss. She opened up and continued, “You know what’s interesting? Since I’ve been hanging out with Dad and I’m the only one on this floor, I get all the attention. We’ve developed more of a bond, like he had with Abigail when she was his only bun. I like that. He even took me shopping for greens.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Belinda said, “What was it like?”
Merlot said, “It was fun! Have you ever been to the market? SO many different foods. All kinds of apples, bananas, cilantro, kale, dandelions—all our favorites. All the smells! I met lots of humans, too.”
As Merlot went on, Belinda listened intently. Before long, without realizing it, Merlot had learned to write her first blog!
