Chapter 91 – Picture Time
Tessa, one of the fifty-one rabbits who had signed up for holiday portraits, arrived on set at her call time. Alyssa, Dad’s assistant, checked her in and placed her on the indoor set. Tessa was a repeat customer. She was one of Dad’s favorite bunny models. Like a pro, she would strike a pose, wait for him to snap a photo, and then change to another pose.
Dad had decided upon a cozy fireside scene with gift boxes, Santa, and a little red wagon for the indoor scene. For the outdoor winter scene, he brought back the train and red truck from several years ago. Enzo approved.
For each of the rabbits, Dad snapped photos of them riding in wagon, sitting in a gift box, and exploring the fireplace. On the winter set, he photographed them on a train or in the back of a red truck, or just wandering around in the “snow.”
Emily, one of the volunteers, donated Christmas hats that were especially made for rabbits. The hats had cutouts for the ears and little elastic bands to go around the ears to hold the hat in place without restricting the rabbits.
Finally, Dad took a portrait photo of the rabbit with their hooman.
This was the sixth year of the event. The holiday portrait session had become so popular that it sold out in less than five hours. All proceeds were donated to The Rabbit Haven rabbit rescue to help the pay medical bills for rabbits who needed medical attention.
For thirteen hours, Dad and Alyssa repeated the process four times an hour. Some rabbits were immediately curious and wandered around the set. Others were more shy and needed time to acclimate. Fortunately, Dad had infinite patience when it came to rabbits.
By the end of the weekend, Dad and Alyssa were exhausted, but happy. For the next week or so, Dad would sort through the 2600 images and edit the best ones. It was a lot of work, but worth it to help rabbits.
