    Chapter 122 – High Maintenance

“I don’t think Dino is a Dutch/Lionhead,” observed Vicki as she groomed him, “I think he’s a Dutch/Angora. See how his back half has been shaved?” Vicki, a Rabbit Haven volunteer who offered grooming services, had seen Dino’s pictures and offered to come over and demonstrate how she groomed fluffy bunnies.

Dad had wondered all along whether the fur on his back was shaved or just short. Vicki pointed out, “See how the color is different? That’s the undercoat.” Vicki used the pet shears to trim the fur around his eyes to help him see better. “I’ve had clients tell me that their rabbits run around more after the fur around their eyes was trimmed because they could see better,” she said. She trimmed the fur between his back legs and under his tail as well. “This will keep him from collecting poop, pee, and hay in his fur,” she explained.

Next, she used a slicker brush to comb his fur. Vicki explained, “I use this brush because it helps break up any matted fur. After that, I use the Hairbuster Comb to pull out any loose fur.” She finished up by fluffing up his mane with a straight comb.

Dad said, “Well, Dino, I can see you’re going to be a high maintenance little rabbit! But don’t you look adorable?” Dino sat up and looked proud of his fluffy coat.
