Bringing home a new baby is a big adjustment for the whole family, pets included. Sometimes our furry and feathered family members aren’t exactly happy with the new arrival. Other times, they’re completely smitten. And that’s exactly what’s happening at Sarah’s house. Her cockatiel, Little Lady, is absolutely in love with her new baby sister!

Instead of feeling jealous, Little Lady immediately decided her new human sibling was her favorite person in the world. To prove it, she serenades the baby every chance she gets, happily singing while perched on her tummy as her tiny audience smiles back with delight. Their sweet bond has viewers completely swooning and left all of us hoping for an encore.

Sarah pointed out in the caption, “Baby’s new pjs are too accurate lol,” and she’s right. The little yellow PJs have a little chick that hatched out of an egg and say, “Just hatched”. They’re adorable and totally fitting!

Like us, other viewers also loved the sweet scene. We laughed when @themrsfoxy pointed out, “The nipping at your hand: ‘UNHAND ME YOU FOUL BEAST, I AM SINGING TO MY CHILD!!!!'”

@Catherine said what Little Lady was probably thinking: “Bigger than expected, but it’ll do.” @Breylell Makins joked, “Plot twist: Baby’s first words are chip, chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp!!”

Why Cockatiels Love to Sing and Whistle

Cockatiels are naturally vocal, social birds that use songs, whistles, and chirps to communicate, bond with their flock, and express excitement.

Chewy explains that cockatiels are expert whistlers and can learn to mimic sounds they hear from their humans, the television, and even the radio. “A whistling cockatiel can be trying to connect with you by picking up human sounds. He also might be bored if he’s sitting alone and whistling to a toy, or excited, based on what’s going on in his surroundings.”

Chewy adds that whistling, singing, and talking are a cockatiel’s way of blending in, “making themselves part of your flock and trying to communicate with you. A talking tiel is usually a happy tiel, but they will also talk when bored.”

Judging by Little Lady’s nonstop serenades, we’d say she’s thrilled to have a brand-new flock member to sing to.
