Daylight Saving Time is back. Or forward. Or maybe in multiple positions …

    Hello. It’s Belinda.

First things first. Did you have a fun Halloween?

And did any “trick-or-treaters” knock on your door?

If you missed my Halloween “photo blog” last week, be sure to check it out.

You’ll find a lot of good costume ideas for next year. Including a creative way for guinea pigs to dress up as pumpkin spice.

On Halloween night, my roommate turned out all the lights upstairs. Then she hid on the bottom level with me, Little Fang and the English.

I thought she just wanted to spend time with us. Maybe tell us a spooky story or two.

    But I was wrong.

“I forgot to buy candy, Belinda.”

    Can you believe that?

I didn’t say anything. I could tell she felt terrible.

Anyway I need to talk about my real topic now.

    Daylight Saving Time.

Every six months I try to figure it out.

Back in March I wrote about “Daylight Spending Time.”

I asked when we were going to stop “saving” all this daylight and start “spending” some of it. It’s the most obvious question in the world.

And last November I wrote a blog titled “24-1=0.”

That blog explained how turning the clock back an hour doesn’t work because of military time. Military clocks “tick tock” from 0 to 24 then reset for the next day.

In military time, midnight is 0000.

And zero minus one is not 2300.

If that doesn’t make sense all I can say is “thank you.”

Because that’s exactly what I say every six months. That all of this “time switching” doesn’t add up.

Today, in honor of “fall back,” I have a new theory. And it’s the best one of all.

    Multiple timelines.

That’s right. Like in the “multiverse.”

I found out about the whole thing from a movie my roommate was watching last week. Called “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

    Have you heard of it?

There’s a lot going on in the movie. A woman has special powers that let her live more than one life at the same time.

In fact, she “bounces” between all the different lives and has adventures. You never know where she’s going to end up next.

You can probably guess what I’m thinking.

What if the exact same thing happens with Daylight Saving Time?

If we just left time alone, that would be Timeline 1.

And when we move it all “back” one hour, that’s Timeline 2.

Timeline 3 is where we live when we set the clock “forward” in the spring.

So right now as I’m writing this blog I’m Belinda 3.

Going about my end-of-October routines. Enjoying the light through the window in the evenings.

But Belinda 2 is somewhere “out there” too. Living her rabbit life.

I hope she has a stack of loops to the left and a pile of alfalfa to her right. That’s a good timeline setup in my opinion.

That leaves Belinda 1. I think she would be the “anti-rabbit.”

Belinda 1 just got done “tidying up” her hay stash.

Next she will play nicely with the English.

By the way she finished her hay reports early.

I’m not sure how I feel about Belinda 1 but this is science.

Well that’s all I have for now on my “multiple timelines” theory.

Let me know what you think in the comments. Or email me at Belinda@smallpetselect.com

I really think I “cracked the code” this time.

    Or this timeline.

    Sincerely,

    Belinda
