Hello. It’s Belinda.
Sorry about the “cliffhanger” in last week’s blog.
I was writing about the big wind storm. And how cold air was blowing into the room because I broke the “vent tube” behind the dryer.
And along with all the noise and cold air suddenly the lights went out.
If you wondered what happened next, it’s a “doozy.”
First we heard my roommate shuffling across the floor upstairs. Like she was being extra careful.
“Don’t worry bunnies!”
She yelled through the ceiling.
“The power went out, but it’s OK!”
Next thing you know there was a loud thud and a yelp.
By the time my roommate made it downstairs to us she had a big flashlight in her hand. So she didn’t stumble into any exercise pens or anything else.
She did, however, immediately notice the cold air blowing from the window behind the dryer.
“Belinda! Did you knock the vent hose loose again?”
I didn’t answer.
“For Pete’s sake!”
She squeezed her arm behind the dryer to attach the foil tube to the window, where it belongs. It was a loud “project” if you know what I mean. My roommate was huffing and puffing and so was the wind storm.
When she finished she stood and turned toward us. She aimed the flashlight beam at my water bowl and food plates. Then she did the same at Little Fang’s pen.
Not sure if she checked the English’s pen. Not my concern.
Then she said something terrible.
“No salads tonight, bunnies.”
I spun my head toward her. Surely it was a bad joke.
“I can’t open the refrigerator until the power comes back on. I don’t want the food inside to go bad.”
Before she went back upstairs she “topped off” everyone’s hay stack from my sampler box.
Before long we could hear her walk through the living room, heading to the steps and the bedroom level.
Eventually the house was silent. I supposed my roommate was in bed.
Well I couldn’t sleep a wink.
First of all, the wind and rain were smacking against the window for hours.
Also my mind was full of worry. I mean about all the “salad fixings” in the refrigerator.
Romaine lettuce. Parsley. Endive. And who knows what else.
What if the power was out for days?
I didn’t want all those leafy greens and herbs to go to waste.
Not sure how long I sat on my sleeping rug, staring into the darkness. But at some point I decided to sneak up to the kitchen and “pry” the refrigerator door open.
Did I have the “paw strength” to open that door? Maybe not. But it was worth a shot.
You can probably guess what happened next.
I was halfway up the steps to the kitchen when suddenly the entire house was lit up. I’m talking bright as “high noon.”
That’s right. The power came back on.
OK now that this blog is done I think it’s a bit silly.
But rabbits can be grumpy about the weather sometimes. Including the rabbits in your house.
And now you know why.
