Last week I covered an important topic.
I wrote about some ways to protect yourself and your stash from wind, rain and “come what may.”
I hope you had a chance to read it. You never know.
At the end of my blog, I asked if any rabbits had some good “hacks” to add to mine. As usual you sent some excellent tips.
Here are just a few.
Rabbit Go Bags
My friends Hazel and Charlie have “go bags.” It’s two duffel bags filled with supplies “ready to go” in case they have to leave their house during bad weather.
Their roommate Kay put the whole thing together for them. The go bags include enough food, medicine and supplies for two rabbits for five days.
Here’s what’s in the go bags:
- 2 bags paper litter
- Pee pads
- Litter box
- 2 bags of hay
- 2 bags of forage
- Treats
- Digestion and urinary tabs
- Waterproof blanket
- Fleece blanket
- Tunnel
- Cardboard scratcher for chewing on
- Lantern & spare batteries
- Bunny first aid kit
- Hazel’s medicine
- Collapsible play yard
Here’s a photo of one of the go bags. Kay really fit a lot in one bag. “Way to go.”
My roommate says she’s inspired by this photo and I hope you are too.
Water and Chargers
My friend Eureka is one of “The Carter Crew.” He had his roommate email his storm prep ideas to me.
“We always keep spare jugs of water in case our electricity goes out. He and the kitties need their hydration y’know!
Also we keep the phone freshly charged so we don’t have to worry about low batteries (a spare charger out of ‘chewing range’ is a good idea!)”
This is Eureka working on his storm prep plans.
Just kidding. I don’t know what he’s thinking about in the photo.
Eureka’s ideas are A+ in my opinion. Thanks to his roommate for sharing them.
Generator
Last but not least, my friend Tom sent me this nice story about a special rabbit he’s missing:
“The Girl that took so much of my heart to the Bridge told me when she moved in that she would need guaranteed heat and A/C as needed and that included power to the frig to keep the greens fresh.
How could I resist.
We got a whole house generator.
And yes, we keep an emergency kit of necessary items for most types of Bun illnesses along with carpeted carriers in case there is an ER Vet Trip.”
Tom sent a photo of The Girl. Looks like she’s fixing his hair.
I’m glad Tom wrote to me about his generator. That’s a good thing to have in case you lose power.
OK that’s all of my “storm prep” tips for now. I hope these two blogs have given you some good ideas for planning ahead for your rabbits.
